Proposal 1 – Wild Wonders: The Calgary Zoo Experience

The concept for this short trailer is to capture the beauty and care that goes into the zoo and its animals. The intention is to highlight how the zoo connects people with wildlife while promoting education and its conservation efforts.

The video will consist of clips from visitors, staff, animals and the surrounding scenery to help the viewer understand what they would see and experience while visiting. Giving a realistic view of the nature and sounds that surround you while there.

The projects main formal principles will be composition and movement. Each shot aiming to bring balance and space, while using close=ups to evoke emotion and intimacy with the animals and people being viewed. I will also use light, color and pacing in an attempt show the harmony between humans and nature at the zoo. Ultimately, this trailer is meant to help audiences appreciate the wildlife and beauty that this space holds.

Approx. Length – 1:30 – 2:30 mins

Proposal 2 – Turning of Light: A video poem of the Turning Season

The Concept for this video poem is to explore the quiet transition in between seasons. Using imagery from nature to the change from fall into the still and quiet of winter as we move towards the winter equinox.

Use imagery of falling leaves, wind, rain, blending that with the sounds of nature as it quiets and goes to sleep before being reborn in the spring.

The poems narration will consist of a read poem as well as natural and found sounds to help enhance the video images of the world moving into the restful time of winter.

The formal principles being explored are rhythm and texture. Warm tones moving to cool, rhythm of flowing water as leaves blow and fall in. Possibly a morning with frost and melt. Color and silence that flow into the quieter months.

The intention is to evoke a sense of peace and awareness of the world slowing moving into sleep and rest – to pause and honour the changing of the season.

Approx. Length – 1:30 – 2:30 mins
